As part of the business strategy ATL are recruiting for an exciting opportunity within the transport department, that being a high achieving and inspirational Transport Manager.  This role will report to the Group Transport Manager.  The role will be based at our Carlisle depot but will require the successful applicant to be flexible in relation work location owing to the needs of the business.  As such it is essential that the successful candidate lives within a commutable distance to our Carlisle depot.

This is an exciting time to be joining ATL where the Transport Manager will be responsible for compliance relating to a fleet of light and heavy goods vehicles and a team of drivers and admin staff in addition to their development.  This role would suite an experienced International CPC qualified Transport Manager looking for a new challenge, where they will have the opportunity to have a direct impact on the development of the depot and the wider business.

Job purpose
Management of the Depot’s Operating Licence ensuring compliance with company directives and legislation including, but not limited to, DVSA, VOSA, WTD and RTWD.

Main duties and responsibilities

HR Responsibilities

1 Uphold organisation’s core values.  Responsible for providing a positive and encouraging atmosphere at all times to ensure all staff work to their best abilities.
2 Working with all members of staff to maintain and develop a positive progressive culture within the business.
3 Manage all aspects to ensure effective supervision of training & development of the wider team with a view to ensure an effective succession plan is implemented and maintained.
4 Conduct weekly meetings with Senior Transport Operators to include the dissemination of Company messages.
5 Participate in the recruitment and selection of Senior Transport Operators, Transport Operators and Drivers.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

6 Support, comply and ensure complicity with Health, Safety and Environmental regulations, the company handbook, Quality standards and all other company policies and procedures.
7 Responsible for the effective management and supervision of health, safety & welfare for the wider team.

Quality Responsibilities

8 Ensure all processes are adhered to by all staff.
9 Analyse management reports in order to continuously improve processes and outcomes.
10 Monitor driver Optiscore, WTD, RTWD and vehicle compliance.

Operational Responsibilities

11 Management of vehicle and trailers to ensure availability for safety inspections, services, repairs and testing at the appropriate times and within the notified Operating Licence maintenance intervals.
12 Driver management ensuring compliance with all drivers’ hours rules, both EU and Domestic, ensuring all drivers record their duty, driving time and rest breaks.
13 Overall management of incident investigations and reporting in relation to any vehicle incidents within agreed format and timelines.
14 Download and store digital tachograph unit data and drivers’ smart cards, ensuring all records are retained for drivers’ hours, Working Time Directive (WTD).
15 Ensure all drivers are adequately trained, competent and have the required licence and qualifications to operate relevant vehicles and equipment.
16 Ensuring that all activities meet or improve on budget, cost and efficiency targets (KPIs).
17 Management of driver briefing / de-briefing throughout the business.
18 Manage the recording and proactive monitoring of improved fuel efficiency within the fleet including the management of tachograph infringements to ensure full compliance.
19 Ensuring great relations and communications with the wider team members and responding politely and in a timely fashion to internal and external customers.
